Messerschmiede Zeilinger - Messermacherkurs 2 bis 3 Tage

The "best seller" among our courses! 2 to 3 days depending on the version

This is where your creativity is needed. You design a blade (hunting knife, outdoor knife, kitchen knife up to max. 20 cm) according to your ideas. The shape of the blade, surface finish, material of the handle, handle design are up to your personal ideas. This creates a really "cool" knife, tailored exactly to you.

For your handle material, you choose from several hundred types of wood, modern composite plastics such as Kirinite, Micarta G10 etc., horns, fossil ivory and bone. Domestic and some exotic precious woods in standard quality are included in the price. Exclusive handle material from the "safe", real gourmet pieces, are of course available from us in the Zeilinger knife forge for an additional charge. "Unusual" blade shapes possible for an additional charge.

Very important in our time-driven times, our multi-day courses do not have to be completed on consecutive days. “Let’s talk together…”.

We only hold individual courses with one, maximum of two course participants. The reason: in a group course it is not possible to address the needs/problems of each individual. However, this is the only way to guarantee the student the sense of achievement we are aiming for and has proven very successful in recent years.

Day 1 schedule:

Selection of the appropriate steel blank (special steels available for an additional charge), working out the desired knife shape using a file, belt sander or grinding grinder.

We take a lunch break at 1 p.m., and of course your physical well-being is more than taken care of.

Refreshed, we continue to grind, apply the cutting angle, polish the surfaces (polishing is possible in this course up to abrasive grain size 400), and drill the handle holes.

The final cutting phase and the transition between the cutting edge and the handle area (ricasso) are applied by us. We then heat treat the blade for the following day (hardened and tempered to the agreed degree of hardness).

Day 2 schedule:

Starts at 9 a.m. You can now finish the surface of your blade according to your ideas, for example with a high gloss polish, hand finish, antique style, stonewash, satin finish, etched, burnished, etc.

Select the handle material. Now it gets creative. We roughly shape the handle scales, attach them, work out the handle shape, final finish.

As usual, depending on the progress of the work, we will strengthen ourselves with a hearty lunch, then we will continue.

Finally, you have the opportunity to finish the surface finish. We will attach a razor-sharp cutting edge.

A Kydex sheath can be made for an additional charge.

When the masterpiece is finished – and there is still time left – we will show you how to sharpen blades professionally.

Of course, you can buy the highest quality grinding tools and care materials for your valuable knife from us.

What to bring: sturdy cotton clothing, sturdy shoes. We will provide protective equipment.
